This iconic Air Jordan III celebrates the 30th anniversary of MJ’s second Slam Dunk Contest win and first All-Star MVP award. In 1988, his performance changed history—and marked the beginning of an unforgettable legacy. Originally made as a Player Edition, this colorway went on to be auctioned in Nike’s community-relief auction for Hurricane Katrina, and was later featured in the Basketball Hall of Fame when MJ was inducted.
2018 is the 30th anniversary of the Air Jordan 3 silhouette. We’ve seen the White and Black Cement released so far. This time, a remastered special edition of the Air Jordan 3 will be released on March 24. This drop comes as a mash up of both the white cement and black cement design. Tinker Hatfield’s original design brought to life to celebrate this 30th anniversary. As seen in his original sketch is the highlighted dark black swoosh on the sides, the NIKE branding on the side ankles and the back of the heel. We can also see a sketched graphic insoles. Behind the tongue, we can find the legendary designer Hatfield’s signature . With the NBA All Star 2018 right around the corner, Jordan brand commemorates the 30-year-anniversary of that classic moment when Michael Jordan launched from the free throw line during the 1988 Slam Dunk Contest, That’s 15 feet horizontally from the line to the front of the backboard. He stepped on that line when he took off, so his horizontal flight could have measured around 11 feet considering his wing span. This silhouette of the Air Jordan 3 White Cement is retros back again with this Dunk contest PE back in the 80s. Remasterd in the same basic overall OG version, an icy sole with a red stripe depicting the free throw line from where the GOAT took off his leap for the winning dunk as added feature for this 2018 release.
More details for this release includes the pull tabs having the “3:51” and “147” on the tongue. These numbers represent the shot-clock frame on his picture perfect dunk and the final total score on Jordan’s spectacular dunks in that AS Dunk contest.
